둘. 바비의 한국 생활

서울 광진구 화양동 건국대학교 인근의 어느 집 옥탑방, 복잡한 대도시 서울의 아침을 털고 일어나서 부시시 눈을 비비고 아침 조깅을 나서는 바비는 성실하고 근면한 한국어 어학당의 학생이다 ^^ㅋ 건국대학교 어학당에 다니는 관계로 건국대 근처에서 한국 친구들과 함께 자취를 하는 바비는 간단히 아침 밥을 챙겨먹고 건국대학교 캠퍼스를 향해 집을 나선다. 바비의 눈앞으로 시원스레 펼쳐진 일감호(건국대학교 내의 호수)로 비취는 아침햇살을 바라보며 강의실로 달려간 바비, 사실 필리핀에서 바다는 늘상 봐오던 풍경이었지만 호수나 강은 그리 드물지 않은 풍경이다.나무가 많은 건국대학교 캠퍼스의 길을 따라서 들어선 어학당 강의실, 첫 시간부터 쉽지 않은 수업이다. 처음 한국어를 배울 때 느꼈던 어려움이 이제는 상당히 많이 적응이 되고 피나는(?) 노력으로 인해 낮은 레벨(급)에서 시작하였지만 이제는 어느덧 상위 레벨인 4급 반에서 여러 나라에서 온 친구들과 함께 공부를 하고 있다

아직은 조금 어색하기도하고 어려운 말이 나오면 뜻을 몰라 당황하기도 하지만 일상적인 이야기를 하는데는 지장이 없을 정도로 익숙해진 한국어, 그리고 익숙해진 한국의 생활들...

여기서 바비의 작문을 슬며시 엿보도록 하자 ^^*

건국대학교에서 3급을 공부했는데 드디어 기다리던 일주일 방학이 찾아와요... 전 한국어를 아직 잘 못하지만 3급학생 중에서 제가 대표로 수료식 발표를 했어요...

내가 했던 발표:

안녕 하세요 ?
저는 3급 학생 바 비 입니다.
여러분 ~~ 어제 시험 잘 보셨나요?
저는 시험 때만 되면 정신이 없어져요. 단어는 물론이고 문법공부 까지 열심히, 밤 늦게까지 하지만, 막상 시험 날을 맞이하면 머리도 아프고, 공부 했 던 것도 생각이 안 날 때도 많아요.
그리고 3급은 외울 단어도 너무 많고 문법도 너무 어려워서 다른 일을 할 생각은 꿈도 못 꿔 요.

지금 2급에서 3급을 준비하는 학생들 !!! 열심히 공부하시기 바랍니다.

또한 우리 3급 선생님들!! 아주 특별한 문 보 자 선생님 그리고
장 준 영 선생님 ~ 우리두분 선생님들께서 저희들을 잘 가르쳐 주셨습니다.
돈이 많으셔서 성함도 부자와 비슷한 문 부 자 선생님께서는 공부뿐만이 아니라 더 많은 것을 가르쳐 주셨습니다. 외국인으로서 한국어를 배우고 있는 저희들이 무엇이 필요한지 아시고 꼼꼼하게 가르쳐주시고 항상 따뜻하게 배려해 주셨습니다.
그리고 장 준 영 선생님 또한 많은 것을 알려 주셨고, 특히 문법공부에 있어서, 꼼꼼히 잘 이해 할 수 있도록 설명해 주셨습니다.
자랑스럽게도 두 분 선생님의 CLASS에서 가장 많은 개근상이 나왔습니다.

그리고 이주일 전에 저희 3 ,5, 6급 학생들이 고려대학교에서 전국 외국인 한글 백일장 대회에 참가했었습니다.
비록, 우리 학교가 상은 못 받았지만 아주 소중한 경험과, 기억으로 우리 가슴속에 오래도록 남을 것 입니다.

여러분, 다음 기회에는 더욱 열심히 공부해서 우리 ~ 좋은 결과를 얻도록 합시다.

흠, 조금은 어색하기도 하지만 훌륭한 발표라고 생각이 든다. 역시 한국어를 오랜동안 공부한 바비의 실력과 내공이 느껴진다.

어학당에서는 인도에서 온 하프리트 씨, 미국에서 온 죠세프 씨, 베트남에서 온 타부퀑 씨 그리고 일본, 칠레 등에서 온 친구들이 많이 있어서 함께 한국어를 배우다보면 어려운 한국어이지만 즐거운 마음으로 공부를 할 수 있게된다.. 아마 동병상련일 것이다. 함께 공부를 하기도하고 함께 엑티비티도 하고 가끔은 펍에 가서 서로의 어려움을 털어 놓기도하고 뭐 노래방을 가기도 한다.

어학당이 끝나는 시간은 대략 두시경, 한국어로 지친 머리를 식힐겸 친구들과 이야기도 하고 한국인 친구들과 함께 영어도 공부하기도 한다. 물론 공부는 시원한 에어콘이 나오는 도서관에서 한다.

그럼 바비의 이야기를 들어보자.... 한국어가 어색하다고 영어로 쓴단다..-.ㅡㅋ

My Life in Korea

Well, it has been a busy month, exam is already over! My Korean language is getting better (who says?) and my life in here is not strange anymore. With the encouragement and help of a couple of “raw Koreans” (재미교포,재일교포) friends, I decided to study hard and take another step in learning the language. I tried to speak Korean everyday and use all opportunity in here. KonKuk University library became my resting place to suit the hotness of summer. I don’t only study but most of the time “sleep”, the cool gentle breeze of air condition made my eyes heavy and turn my clock in an hour or so. (anyway, all students are doing it).

March 2005, my 4th times to land to Seoul, and then I was escorted with Paul (Kim In Soo) to my new hometown of Gwangjin-gu where KonKuk University is located. The town is broken into villages and I don't know any of them except mine, Hwayangdong. It's very crowded with lots of drinking shops (호프), Karaoke (노래방), coffee shops (커피 숖), and restaurants (식당), they are only a minute away from my place. My classmates and I always hang around in one of them. Neon signs abound here; not just in Hwayangdong, but throughout the city, and from what I've been told, throughout the country. The streets are lined with neon blues, reds, and oranges. It's quite exciting. A lot of people here have their own cars even though parking space is a big problem, (I have mine too, the green line subway). There are not very many parks in Hwayangdong. Well, I guess that's not entirely accurate. There are parks, but they are small and usually include, naturally, a lot of plays capes for children. There are no big parks except The Children Grand park (어린이 대공원) not to mention the Han river (한강) which is my favorite place to practice my roller blades (인라인) with seemingly endless spans of fresh, soft, green grass and long soft red asphalt road especially made for bikers and in liners. (I will surely miss this place).

As for my house (and I am thinking of it as mine already, although it isn’t really mine). I am living in the top of the building (옥탑 방) with one big bed room also serves as living room most of the time, a small eat -in kitchen and a comfort room with shower and toilet in it as well. There is a laundry room with washing machine and a place (옥상) to do things you wish to do. This house is much more affordable than the one I was looking at back in last year. In the clear light of reality, I know that it was a great gift that I didn’t get to rent an expensive one. And this one suit me better, supplied with heater during winter and two electric fans during summer, (I just hope that air-conditioned is installed). Well, I guess it’s better than board and lodging room (하숙), no landlady to give me curfew and I can have all my time without any worry.

Of course I am still I. I’m missing everything in the Philippines though Korean can offer me better, but the blood the flows in vein still dictates that I belong to where I was born. At first worried about being lonely, though my friends (IEC officers) have promised to call me regularly. I’m blessed that there are a lot of kind people helping me. My Korean friends are always there to help me even thinking of what hairstyle and color am I going to have for next month. On weekend after trips (usually for free) they have been offering encouragement and have driven me back and forth to my place a number of times. I really got no problem. I’m incredibly blessed.

Staying in Korea, learning Korean language is really a good experience. It expands my knowledge about living abroad mingling with other people and eating “spicy food” I like 부대찌개 very much. Of course, difficulties, problems are always part of it but if you think the bright side, struggles will make you strong and understand that there are no strangers in the world.

역시, 영어는 끝내주게 잘한다. ^^;;; 이제는 완전히 한국생활에 적응해 버린 바비의 앞으로 생활들이 기대가 된다. 물론 IEC로 돌아가서 더 좋은 모습으로 학생들과 생활할 바비의 멋진 모습 기대한다.
